Armand Albert Rateau

About 15 years ago I saw an article in a magazine about Armand Albert Rateau featuring the cat end irons and I was captivated. The wit and delicacy of Rateau's work is astounding, together with the skill level required to carry it off. Luckily, a few years ago one of our London Clients, also a fan of Rateau, asked us to produce a bird floor lamp and other items of furniture inspired by this wonderful designer for her home and Rateau was back in my focus again. Since then we have worked with two further London based clients on Rateau inspired pieces. When I moved to a house built in 1922 it gave me an excuse to work on Rateau inspired pieces for my own pleasure (luckily my wife agreed... ) and these, together with those clients pieces, are shown below. Thanks to my friend Steve Murray, we have also been able to reproduce our work in bronze.

There is only one book about Rateau that I am aware of which is in French and by Franck Olivier-Vail and Francois Rateau which I highly recommend.
