Throne for Pope John Paul, Denver, Colorado
Throne for Pope John Paul
Denver, Colorado

When Pope John Paul was due to visit Denver, architect David Tryba contacted us with an idea for a throne. He visualized the seat to be simple and reflect something of the Rocky Mountains and the state of Colorado.

We, being wood carvers, wanted to decorate the piece and suggested using a columbine motif, Colorado's state flower. The hand stitched seat back and cushion were fashioned by our friends, the good ladies of Salt lake City, who we had worked with on the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City.

There is also a hand carved dedication on the chair and two smaller side chairs that go with this piece. We understand that these pieces are now displayed in the Cathedral in Denver.

...the incredible effort you and your talented staff put forth in the chair for His Holiness Pope John Paul II ...was well beyond our expectations. Thank you again for your enthusiasm, fantastic talent, hard work and the devotion you brought to our project.
