Custom Woodcarving Projects

The Cathedral of the Madeleine Cathedral of the Madeline
Salt Lake City, Utah

In 1995 Agrell Architectural Carving was commissioned by the cathedral and architects Beyer Blinder Belle of New York to construct, carve and install a chancel screen and tabernacle as part of a large restoration of the building that included decorating and major structural upgrades.

The Cathedral of the Madeleine, chancel screen The wood carving of the chancel screen and tabernacle was completed in oak and stained and polished. The carvers incorporated bees (Utah's state insect) into the design and the ancient "Green Man" was used in some of the capitals above the rope pillars. The fret work of the screen was carved out of solid boards of oak, and the overall effect incorporated the new carved elements with the existing woodwork.

See our work at the Cathedral of the Madeleine web site.

Agrell Architectural Carving performed above our expectations, starting with the shop drawings they produced to the final work. The company worked professionally with others on the project, understood the complexity and contractual obligations of a large project and delivered on time.
