Custom Woodcarving Projects

Governor's Mansion, Salt Lake City, Utah

In the mid nineties, a huge Christmas tree in the center of the Kearns (Utah Governor’s) Mansion caught fire and the building was gutted. This resulted in the biggest project that we have ever undertaken (20,000 hours of wood carving).

The original carvings were probably done in Germany or Austria at the end of the 19th Century and installed in the mansion. The quality of the work that Agrell Architectural Carving had to replace was extraordinary and the original wood carvers taught us many new skills - we thank them. This picture shows the quality the original carvers demanded of us. This is one of the wood carved newell posts.

Agrell Architectural Carving's attention to detail was astounding, from the carved capitals to the complex figure carving on the oak Botticelli column bases. Their contribution and devotion to the project was without equal.
