Art Nouveau Fire Surround Detail
This wood carving of an Art Nouveau design by the French designer M.P.Verneuil (circa 1895) was produced for a carved fire mantel. This complex design was carved into the wood and not applied. The work was then coloured and slightly distressed to add toning. This private commission was undertaken by wood carvers at Agrell Architectural carving; the carving is only about a quarter of an inch deep.
Agrell Architectural Carving has produced a number of carvings of this style by Verneuil for door surrounds, friezes etc., and they have been well received especially in contemporary settings. Further Art Nouveau by the amazing Verneuil can be found on the Dover Publication's web site. We recommend them to you.
