Detail of Rococo "Chimney Piece"
This amazing English rococo "chimney piece" was commissioned by Ann Getty who is now a well known designer in San Francisco. Adam Thorpe, the wood carver, took 3600 hours and completed the project in 1995. The carving was undertaken in pine. The gesso was applied by hand and then recarved with even more detail before the piece was gilded and distressed.
We haven't done a project quite like this since - although we have produced many carved fire mantels.
